Dickinson County is seeking a Public Health Nurse (RN) to join the Health Department. This position provides skilled nursing care and public health services to individuals and families in clinic, community, and home settings. The nurse supports Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services, immunization programming, screenings, health education, counseling, referrals, and other general public health nursing duties. This role reports to the Health and Medical Services Director and is classified as non-exempt.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, develop, direct, and evaluate the Maternal and Child Health program in Dickinson County, including support for annual community outreach efforts for pregnant and postpartum women.
- Assist with organizing and facilitating prenatal education classes as needed.
- Provide clinic or home visits to pregnant women and infants, including assessments, screenings, health education, and referrals.
- Manage the Immunization Program in accordance with state requirements, including vaccine inventory management and reporting.
- Lead coordination efforts for flu vaccination clinics.
- Provide Kan-Be-Healthy, well-child, daycare, and related child health assessments, including dental, developmental, hearing, and vision screenings.
- Perform height, weight, blood pressure checks, TB skin tests, immunotherapy, pregnancy testing, and other public health nursing services as needed.
- Provide screenings such as developmental, urinalysis, hemoglobin, blood sugar, lead, vision, hearing, blood pressure, and dental screenings.
- Collaborate with public and private healthcare providers and community agencies to support coordinated care.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential client records.
- Participate in disease investigations and perform other related duties as assigned.

- Strong nursing assessment and clinical skills, particularly related to prenatal, postnatal, infant, and child health.
- Ability to provide health education, develop care plans, and support positive client outcomes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong organization, time management, customer service, teamwork, and computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations, youth, healthcare providers, and community partners

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Kansas RN or LPN license, or temporary permit
- CPR certification
- Valid Kansas driver’s license
PREFERRED:
- 1–3 years of related nursing experience
- KDHE Child Health Assessment Certification
