Reducing Mosquitoes

KSU Extension Entomology in Manhattan has provided information containing the following recommendations:

• Eliminate mosquito habitat by keeping weeds out of the pond, and by raising the water level (but not above optimum operating level).
• Use products based on the Bacillus sphaericus such as VectoLex.
• Use products based on Methoprene such as Alstosid and Strike.
• Use products based on Temephos (an organophosphate insecticide also toxic to mammals) such as Abate.
